Skoda 4×4 Winter Experience - 4×4 models in the Enyaq iV family with electric motor on both axles

Škoda Auto relies on modern technology and two different concepts for its all-wheel drive models. The 4×4 models in the Enyaq iV family - the 80x and RS variants - feature two electric motors, each delivering power to one axle. As with the models in the Enyaq iV family with only one motor and rear-wheel drive, a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PSM) with 150 kW is installed on the rear axle. With an efficiency of well over 90 percent in most driving situations, it is highly efficient. If the driving situation requires it, for example with low grip, an 80 kW asynchronous machine (ASM) on the front axle also drives the front wheels. Its advantages lie in its short-term overload capability and minimal drag losses during inactivity. The system output of the Enyaq iV 80x version is 195 kW; for the RS iV it is 220 kW. Since components such as cardan shaft, clutch or differential are omitted, there is no mechanical connection between the two axles. The system therefore operates very quickly and highly efficiently. The electronic control of the electric motors is so fast and smooth that any corrections required in conjunction with the driver assistance systems go unnoticed by the driver.
