Volkswagen is consistently pursuing its e-mobility strategy: to kick off its battery offensive, the Group today laid the foundation stone for its first own cell factory in Salzgitter in the presence of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Production will start in 2025. With immediate effect, responsibility for the global battery business will be borne by the newly formed "PowerCo" company. In addition to cell production, it will be responsible for activities along the entire battery value chain. By 2030, PowerCo, together with partners, is expected to invest more than 20 billion euros in building up the business area, generate annual sales of over 20 billion euros and employ up to 20,000 people in Europe alone.
