At the traditional "Assembly of an honorable businessman" held at the end of the year, Hamburg's business community criticized the policies of the federal government and the Senate and called for more entrepreneurial freedom and a reduction in bureaucracy. Other demands included strengthening the port through more competition and a secure energy supply at competitive prices.
