Borussia Dortmund had to endure a lot, but secured a spot in the Club World Cup quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over Monterrey on Wednesday (2nd) at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Thanks to goals from top scorer Guirassy, a highlight from the last Champions League, the German team survived a difficult start and the strong pressure from the Mexican team in the second half. Guirassy scored two goals in the first half after converting precise passes from Adeyemi. Monterrey reduced the deficit early in the second half through Berterame and went on the offensive, with "Tecatito" Corona creating chances, which he failed to convert multiple times. Dortmund's goalkeeper Kobel saved the team with crucial saves. In stoppage time, the experienced Sergio Ramos almost equalized with a header, but the ball narrowly missed the post. Dortmund secured the victory and will now play against Real Madrid at the MetLife Stadium next Saturday (5th) for a spot in the semifinals. The other quarterfinal matches include Palmeiras vs. Chelsea, Fluminense vs. Al Hilal, and Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich.
