The Ruby Slippers worn by actress Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" are up for auction, nearly two decades after a thief stole the iconic shoes. The slippers were stolen in 2005 from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where they were on loan from private collector Michael Shaw. After a 13-year search, the FBI was able to recover the slippers in 2018 thanks to a tip and an undercover operation. The thief, Terry Martin, believed the slippers contained real rubies. Martin was later charged but is currently on probation due to an incurable illness. Shaw has turned over the slippers, valued at $3.5 million, to Heritage Auctions, where they will be auctioned off after a worldwide tour. The Judy Garland Museum has expressed great interest in acquiring the slippers and raised $100,000 for the purchase at the Judy Garland Festival.
