A simple language test is used to predict life expectancy. In a study by the Max Planck Institute, data from 500 seniors aged between 70 and 95 were analyzed. The participants repeatedly took psychological tests, including tests on perception speed, short-term memory, and language fluency. All participants have since passed away, allowing the study to be evaluated. Among other tasks, seniors had to list as many animals as possible. According to the study, those who could name about 33 animals in 90 seconds had about 12 years left to live. In comparison, seniors who could only name eleven animals had about three years left.
