Motorcyclist crashes into truck and dies on the L597 near Mannheim

Mannheim (ots) According to the current state of the accident investigation, the truck driver was driving from Schwetzingen towards Friedrichsfeld at around 2:50 p.m. Due to a tire blowout on the vehicle, the driver slowed down the truck. The 68-year-old motorcyclist following behind may have recognized the braking maneuver too late and subsequently collided with the truck. The 68-year-old suffered the most severe injuries as a result of the collision. Despite immediate resuscitation measures, the 68-year-old succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene of the accident. The direction lane of the L597 between A 656, Mannheim-Seckenheim in Friedrichsfeld and the junction to Schwetzingen had to be closed for the accident investigation until 6:45 p.m. The total property damage is estimated at approximately 17,000 euros. The traffic police and the Mannheim public prosecutor's office, in close cooperation with an accident expert, have initiated further investigations.
