Queen Camilla will make royal history on 28 March when she stands in for King Charles, who is ill, at the Royal Maundy Service. Worcester Cathedral announced that the Queen will distribute the gifts for King Charles, who is undergoing treatment for cancer. Although Camilla has attended the Royal Maundy Service before, she will be the first consort to lead this ancient tradition. Charles has retired from most of his royal duties and this is seen as the most important event he has missed so far. "We are delighted to welcome Her Majesty the Queen to the Cathedral on Maundy Thursday (March 28) when we will be holding the Royal Maundy Thursday Service," Worcester Cathedral wrote in a post on X. The head of the British monarchy leads the Maundy Thursday service every year on the Thursday before Easter. According to the royal family's official website, the tradition of the monarch giving money or coins to local pensioners dates back to 600 AD
