Steinmeier appoints Pistorius as new defense minister

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has appointed SPD politician Boris Pistorius as the new federal defense minister. He said the new minister would need a "cool head, good nerves, leadership, clear language and political experience" for the challenges ahead. Pistorius had shown all of this in previous posts.
