Why the Alpine Currant is Perfect for Your Garden

The Alpine Currant is an undemanding and easy-care shrub, ideal for hedge plantings. It belongs to the gooseberry family and grows up to 250 cm high and 150 cm wide. The plant prefers semi-shady to shady locations and a humus-rich, nutrient-rich, calcareous soil. Maintenance is minimal: after rooting, it tolerates drought well and requires little fertilizer - once a year in spring is enough. It has shallow roots, and too much fertilizer is often bad for it. Regular pruning is not necessary, only occasional thinning. The fruits of the Alpine Currant are edible but tasteless. Therefore, they are usually left for birds and small mammals.
