Bathing vs. Showering: Which is better for you? When it comes to hygiene, most people tend to jump in the shower to quickly and refreshingly wash up and start the day. On the other hand, baths are seen as more luxurious and are closely associated with "self-care." In terms of cleanliness, baths may be potentially more effective but also more time-consuming and expensive. A bath with essential oils and bath salts can make the skin cleaner than a shower, even though it is recommended to rinse off afterwards. However, this is only true if the bathtub is thoroughly cleaned and free of dirt, which is rarely the case for many of us. Taking a bath requires more water than a shower unless you usually shower for a very long time. Ironically, sitting in the bathtub for hours can dry out the skin, so people with sensitive skin may prefer to take a shower. Ultimately, the choice between showering and bathing is subjective and context-dependent, but in general, showering is better than bathing.
