A new study reveals: Many adolescents suffer from a new addiction. What they are affected by, we reveal in this video. A new WHO study shows: One in ten adolescents in Europe shows signs of addictive behavior - but this time it's not about drugs, but about social media and gaming. According to the WHO report 'Adolescents, Screens, and Mental Health,' the number of adolescents with problematic usage behavior has increased from 7 percent in 2018 to 11 percent in 2022. Girls are particularly at risk, while boys more often show problematic gaming behavior. The consequences can be severe: Many adolescents suffer from lack of sleep, declining academic performance, and have a higher risk of substance abuse. However, the WHO also emphasizes the positive effects of social media, such as stronger social connections. Therefore, it calls for more media literacy in schools to better prepare adolescents for dealing with digital media. Parents and governments also have a responsibility in this.
