The Russian military leadership has dismissed the commander of the 58th Russian Army Ivan Popov, according to his statements. He stated in a voice message spread on Telegram on Wednesday that he was removed from his post due to criticism of the inefficient warfare. Popov, whose army fought in the southern Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, harshly criticized Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. According to several military experts, around 16 months after the start of the Russian war against Ukraine, there is dissatisfaction with the own military leadership and their embellished situation reports in large parts of the Russian armed forces.
