If you have a dog or a cat but can't cope with the animal or can no longer afford the costs, you bring it to an animal shelter. However, at the Flensburg animal shelter, you would currently be turned away because it does not accept dogs and cats from private households. According to the German Animal Welfare Association, the animal shelters in Schleswig-Holstein are at their limit, and an improvement is not in sight.
