UKE succeeds in separating conjoined twins

The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf has achieved a sensation. For the first time in the history of the UKE, conjoined twins were successfully separated. The girls were born in the 33rd week of pregnancy in mid-August 2023 by caesarean section. They were joined at the abdomen and liver. In mid-October, they were separated in a four-hour operation. SAT.1 REGIONAL spoke with Professor Kurt Hecher, the director of the Department of Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine at the UKE, about this medical feat.
