The League for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany wants to create more habitats suitable for wildcats. Currently, around 800 animals live in Lower Saxony. The wildcat is one of the endangered species and prefers its habitat to be close to nature. Deadwood, trees, and shrubs provide the animals with cover and protection. Therefore, 900 shrubs have already been planted on the areas of the Lower Saxony State Forests in the Southern Heath and the southern Heidekreis. Now, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, more forests suitable for wildcats are to be created.
