Saltwater is an ancient remedy for sore throats. A glass of warm water and a teaspoon of salt can alleviate the pain. Salt is an electrolyte, a mineral that supports bodily functions and helps maintain fluid balance when added to water. Electrolyte salts like sodium and calcium facilitate muscle contractions and nerve functions, enhancing performance. Drinking saltwater can also aid digestion in cases of deficiencies or for individuals eating meals on the go. It's important to note that while saltwater has its benefits, excessive salt intake can be harmful to individuals with kidney issues or high blood pressure. Additionally, due to increasing ocean pollution, sea salt may contain trace amounts of toxic microplastics. To achieve a perfect balance and optimal performance, it is recommended to consume four to six grams of sodium daily.
