More than just a "cool" color: Nissan is testing a new paint technology that is designed to reduce the temperature on the vehicle surface and inside the cabin on hot days. This helps reduce the load on the air conditioning system, resulting in energy savings. The new paint was developed in collaboration with Radi-Cool, a specialist in radiant cooling. The paint is made of synthetic composite materials with structures that do not occur naturally in nature. The project is one of many innovations by Nissan on the path to a cleaner and more sustainable society. The paint has been undergoing testing since late 2023 in a twelve-month feasibility study at Tokyo-Haneda Airport, conducted by Nissan in collaboration with Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd., Radi-Cool Japan, and the airport service of All Nippon Airways (ANA). The paint was applied to a Nissan NV100, which serves as a service vehicle for the airport service. With its large, open runway, Haneda Airport provides the ideal environment to test the paint's performance in a challenging environment with high temperatures under real conditions.
