The naturally aspirated four-liter six-cylinder engine guarantees impressive performance figures. Both 718 GTS 4.0 models with manual transmission reach their top speed at 293 km/h; with PDK, the corresponding figure is 288 km/h. In acceleration from zero to 100 km/h, the 718 GTS 4.0 with six-speed manual transmission is a tenth faster than the S model with turbocharged engine, reaching the 100 km/h mark in 4.5 seconds. The sprint from zero to 200 km/h takes 14.1 seconds. The 718 GTS 4.0 variants with automated gearshift are even livelier. With PDK, gear changes take place without interruption of traction. This increases shifting comfort and improves acceleration. Compared with the 718 models with manual transmission, the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 with PDK and Launch Control sprint to 100 and 200 km/h around half a second faster to 4.0 and 13.7 seconds respectively (minus 0.4 seconds compared with the manual transmission). In the 718 GTS 4.0 models, the standard Sport Chrono package adjusts the PDK's shift characteristics via four different driving modes (Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual). In Sport mode, it operates with faster gear changes, downshifts earlier with automatic intermediate throttle jolts, and supports optimum acceleration with later shift points. The even more consistently designed Sport Plus mode focuses on maximum performance and fully exploits the rev reserves of the six-cylinder naturally aspirated boxer engine. This driving program also features the Launch Control function, which activates an automated race start.
