Blackout exercise: Hamelin-Pyrmont County develops emergency plan for power outages

What to do when the power goes out, cell phones lose reception and then emergencies occur, such as an acute heart attack? Hameln-Pyrmont County has developed an emergency plan for such blackouts and decided to set up so-called lighthouses. These are mainly fire stations in the towns and communities belonging to the district, which are manned and serve as contact points for the population when help is needed. The emergency services on site can then provide immediate assistance or forward the request for help. But it is not only the fire department that is involved in the so-called lighthouse project; in the future, the rescue service will also be put on heightened alert in the event of a power outage.
