To get a little closer to Arctic conditions, Nissan and the "Pole to Pole" expedition team chose the Icelandic capital of Reykjavík to unveil the modified Ariya. This will soon begin its 27,000-kilometer journey from the North Pole to the South Pole. Starting in March, British adventurer Chris Ramsey and his wife Julie will take the all-electric crossover SUV on a tour of breathtaking yet extreme environments, including icy and snowy terrain, steep mountainsides and inhospitable dune landscapes. Together with Arctic Trucks, specialists in polar expedition vehicles, Nissan has prepared the Ariya for this adventure. Modifications to the vehicle were deliberately kept to a minimum; no changes were made to the battery or powertrain. The most noticeable difference concerns the adjustment of the suspension and the additional 39-inch tires. Combined with Nissan's e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive technology, these modifications allow the vehicle to travel over extreme terrain with maximum comfort and control. A self-confessed fragrant lover, Chris Ramsey's on-board features include an integrated espresso machine and a supply of sustainable coffee. This helps the adventurer focus on the road during the long and lonely stretches. He can capture the beauty and variety on the route with a drone that can be launched directly from the utility unit on the roof. Another innovation is the portable, rechargeable power source used to charge the Ariya in the polar regions. During breaks, an easily stowed wind turbine and solar cells produce energy for the drive battery.
