Diane Ladd, the celebrated triple Oscar nominee, known for her roles in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" and "Wild at Heart," has passed away at the age of 89. Her daughter, Laura Dern, announced Ladd's death and shared that she passed away at home in Ojai, California, in the presence of Dern. Dern described Ladd as an "incredible heroine" and a "wonderful mother," adding, "We were blessed to have had her. She is now flying with her angels." Ladd made her breakthrough in 1974 in Martin Scorsese's film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," for which she received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of a sharp-tongued waitress. She went on to star in "Chinatown," "Primary Colors," "Wild at Heart," and "Rambling Rose," earning another Oscar nomination for the latter two. Ladd and Dern made history as mother-daughter Oscar nominees for "Rambling Rose" and notably also starred together in "Wild at Heart." Ladd's television appearances included "Emergency Room," "Touched by an Angel," and the sitcom "Alice," based on Scorsese's film. Scorsese fondly remembered her, saying in a touching tribute, "My experiences with Diane are among the best. Diane was a great improvisational actress... she had it all." Ladd was married three times, including to actor Bruce Dern, with whom she had her daughter Laura.
