Cynthia Erivo secured her second Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Elphaba in the film "Wicked" and is back in the race for the prestigious EGOT status. Should she win an Oscar, she would be the youngest person to achieve the coveted EGOT status - Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Erivo could surpass the current record of Robert Lopez, who achieved the EGOT at 39. Erivo, now 38, was close in 2020 with two Oscar nominations for "Harriet". Erivo has already secured three of the four major awards. In 2016, she won a Tony for her role as Celie in "The Color Purple". The following year, she received a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album and a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Musical Performance, both for the same production. In response to her nomination, Erivo shared an emotional Instagram post from an airplane, calling it a "moment of gratitude". She expressed her appreciation for being part of a project that inspires magic and shared a video of herself wiping away tears while "defying gravity". "To my sister @arianagrande, what a joy it is to be here with you... I am so, so proud of you," she wrote, celebrating co-star Ariana Grande's first Oscar nomination. Erivo also thanked director Jon M. Chu and the entire "Wicked" team for their support and vision.
