The US Department of Justice is suing the state of Maine for refusing to comply with a ban on transgender athletes in high school sports, as Attorney General Pam Bondi announced. The lawsuit claims that Maine is violating Title IX, a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in schools receiving federal funding.
