It was an especially hot summer in the forest and gnome garden. The leaves hung tired on the branches, and even the stream, which usually bubbled cheerfully, was almost dried up. The small insects – beetles, ants, bees, and butterflies – suffered from the heat. Their water sources had dried up, and many lay exhausted in the shade of the grasses.
