In 2021 alone, sales in Germany have increased by almost 80 percent. Bestsellers like "One Piece" sell as well worldwide as the Bible or Harry Potter. Publishers, streaming portals, the gaming industry - everyone is making money from the cult of the heroic stories from Japan. Popular cosplayers and anime youtubers reach an audience of millions on the Internet. But how did the picture stories from the small country in the Far East become a global cultural event?
