The Nissan Qashqai is breaking new ground: e-Power will make its debut in the compact crossover SUV in late summer 2022. The unique electrified drive system is coming to Europe for the first time. As part of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, it points the way to electromobility and makes journeys just as pleasant as they are efficient. The drive system, specially tailored to European drivers, combines two Nissan strengths: advanced battery and motor technology as well as innovative combustion engines with variable compression ratios. This combination optimizes fuel efficiency without sacrificing driving pleasure. This is Nissan's response to the typical driving behavior of crossover owners: more than 70 percent drive predominantly in urban and suburban environments - and compromise on driving pleasure in favor of environmental protection. e-Power puts an end to that.

Research project 5G Insel - cloud-based control of robots

Volkswagen is taking a further step in the direction of fully networked factories. A local 5G standalone network (“campus network”) is now available at its main plant in Wolfsburg that initially covers the main production development center and the pilot hall. The pilot project will test whether the 5G technology meets the demanding requirements of vehicle production with a view to developing this for industrial series production in the future. A dedicated 5G radio frequency will be used to safeguard secure, delay-free transmission of data. The Transparent Factory in Dresden has also put a so-called “5G island” into operation. Volkswagen undertakes setup and operation of the 5G infrastructure itself in a move designed to build up competitive expertise in using this important technology of the future and ensure data security.

The all-new Volkswagen ID. LIFE Design Preview

The ID. LIFE is based on a smaller variant of Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB) that has been developed specifically for the small car segment. It is the first all-electric Volkswagen on the MEB platform to transmit its drive power to the road via the front wheels. Front-wheel drive opens up additional potential for highly efficient use of interior space in a compact surface area. The front-mounted electric motor in the ID. LIFE generates a maximum output of 172 kW (234 PS), accelerating the compact five-door model from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. In the underbody of the ID. LIFE there is space for a high-voltage battery whose energy content of 57 kWh enables a range of approximately 400 kilometres according to the WLTP. Thanks to modern charging technology, the range of the ID. LIFE can be increased by up to 163 kilometres within ten minutes when stopping at a DC charging station en route.
