Derek Bell has won Le Mans a remarkable five times, four of those at the wheel of a Porsche. This year the 78 year-old Briton would have been starting the race as Grand Marshall, but instead finds himself at home in Florida, itching to return to his old hunting grounds. Brand ambassador and LMP1 ace Mark Webber was a pivotal figure in the 919 Hybrid programme that culminated in three back-to-back victories for Porsche at Le Mans. After a successful career in Formula One, Webber brought an exceptional breadth of experience and commitment to Porsche’s fledgling prototype campaign, narrowly missing out on overall victory at Le Mans on two occasions.
New Fiat (500)RED Preview
The New (500)RED is the hero of the evening, created in collaboration between FIAT and (RED) with a shared message to care for the environment, for the planet and for its people. From the belief that we can all play our part in the fight against pandemics and that each of us can therefore lead the change comes an unusual decision in the automotive landscape, to have the driver’s seat one color – red – with the other three passenger seats in black. A provocation, a message, an invitation: be 'ready’ to sit in the driving seat of change. For those who prefer uniformity of color, the model is also available with the seats all black and the contrasting (500)RED logo, or all in red with a black logo. FIAT aims to convey the (RED) message to the broadest possible audience, so the special series is now available across the entire 500 Family: the New (500)RED, (500)RED, (500X)RED and (500L)RED will therefore take on the color red as a hallmark, both outside (from the bodywork and logos to the mirror caps and design cues on the alloy wheels) and in (dashboard fascia, design cues on the floor mats, and the exclusive seats made using Seaqual® yarn, derived from plastics recovered from the oceans, with the FIAT signature and the (500)RED logo on the backrest). Red will not be the only color in the (RED) special series; the palette of body colors actually includes other specific shades for each model.
The all-new, rear-wheel drive 2022 Subaru BRZ sports car made its Global Debut today at the Thermal Club Raceway in Thermal, CA. Subaru developed the all-new BRZ with the same fundamentals of sports car design that it used to create the original: low vehicle weight, an ultra-low center of gravity with precision steering and handling in an affordable 2+2 package. But for the 2022 model year, the BRZ features more power, better handling, improved styling, a 50-percent increase in torsional stiffness and a modern interior. A pure sports car with Subaru DNA.
After only two weeks’ break, the DTM championship resumes with round three of the season at Zolder. Two Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020s, fielded by Red Bull Alpha Tauri AF Corse, will vie for a valuable result on the Belgian track. Zolder is seen as the home of the DTM, having hosted the first round of the series back in 1984. The DTM last came here in 2002. It is a fast and challenging track full of glamour and history, a little over 4 km long. It offers a mix of slow and ultra-fast turns, high kerbs, and very tight chicanes, demanding maximum driving precision, with no room for error. Once again, a limited audience of 5,000 will be present for all three days of the event. Liam Lawson will take the wheel of the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 of Red Bull AF Corse. The New Zealander finished second in the previous round at Lausitzring, penalised by the Balance of Performance that left him with less power than his rivals. However, the result could have been better if he had not stalled during a pit stop in Race-2. Lawson will be keen to achieve a strong result for the championship in which he lies second in the overall standings, just four lengths behind Kelvin van der Linde.
