The electric all-wheel drive in the Q4 e-tron top models has an asynchronous motor (ASM) on the front wheels that can rev at up to 14,000 rpm. It is installed coaxially and has combined cooling with coolant and oil. The principal advantages of the ASM are its short-term overload capacity and the minimal drag losses when it is inactive – these are important because the front motor does not contribute to the drive in the majority of driving situations for reasons of efficiency.

Production of the first-ever BMW i4 at BMW Group Plant Munich - Assembly

The first series-produced BMW i4 has today rolled off the production lines at BMW Group Plant Munich. The company’s home plant now manufactures all drive variants on a single assembly line. “For the plant and team, the launch of the BMW i4 is a milestone on the road to electric mobility,” said Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG Board Member for Production. “By 2023 more than half of all vehicles from our Munich facility will have an electrified drive. The majority will be fully electric. So Munich goes fully electric.” Setting up production of the fully electric BMW i4 in the confines of the almost 100-year-old plant, the conversion and installation of systems proved particularly challenging. “We succeeded in integrating the new vehicle into our existing systems without halting production. The team and our partners did an amazing job,” added Peter Weber, Director of BMW Group Plant Munich. Space constraints notwithstanding, existing systems were removed, and new ones installed and ramped up. “Our bodyshop is a shining example of intelligent, efficient integration. Most of the new production processes for the BMW i4 can be carried out on the existing bodyshop systems,” Weber explained.

The new ŠKODA ENYAQ COUPÉ iV makes a statement with its dynamic looks and sporty, elegant lines. It complements the successfully launched ŠKODA ENYAQ iV, adding an even more emotive variant to the range. The ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV also marks the debut of the brand’s first all-electric member of the sporty RS family. While the roofline gently slopes towards the rear from the B-pillar, the new coupé offers plenty of space in the rear and a boot capacity of 570 l. Just like in the ENYAQ iV, the classic trim levels for the interior have been replaced with the Design Selections. There is a choice of two battery sizes, rear- or all-wheel drive, and four power variants with outputs ranging from 132 kW to 220 kW (RS variant). The outstanding drag coefficient (cd) of 0.234 is even better than that of the ENYAQ iV and, depending on the specification, enables a range of more than 540 km in the WLTP cycle.
