At the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, the sedan and T-model of the new C-Class will roll off the assembly line with immediate effect. Production of the highest-volume Mercedes-Benz model series of the past decade starts in Bremen, the lead plant in the global C-Class production network. The starting shot will follow shortly at the international locations in Beijing, China and East London, South Africa. Plug-in hybrids will follow soon afterwards - a further step in the “Electric first” strategy in the Mercedes-Benz production program. The battery systems for this are supplied by the Mercedes-Benz battery factory in Jawor, Poland. Local production in China for China is a decisive success factor for Mercedes-Benz. China has been the largest sales market for the C-Class sedan since 2016. The Beijing plant produces the long version of the C-Class for the Chinese market. Right- and left-hand drive sedans are built in East London for global export. State-of-the-art production methods and processes, for example a completely new body-in-white system, increase flexibility, efficiency and sustainability. Thanks to innovative technologies, the paint shop at the East London plant has also reduced energy consumption per vehicle by 25 percent
