The new CUPRA Formentor VZ5 - The exterior design
The dynamic proportions, which accentuate the length of the bonnet even more by visually emphasizing the rear, have been retained. The bonnet, specially developed for the CUPRA Formentor VZ5, is new, with its sculptural lines that draw the viewer's eye to the black radiator grille. With its new, color-coordinated radiator frame in Sport Black Matt, it forms the ideal backdrop for the noble metallic CUPRA emblem. Below the headlamps in the typical CUPRA design are two air intakes that emphasize the more distinctive, even more determined face of the new CUPRA Formentor VZ5. The carbon side front splitter directs air into the intercoolers while improving downforce. The side view of the new performance CUV also impresses with its dynamism and the indication of the power under its bonnet. Its increased track width is reflected in the flared wheel arches, which house the exclusive 20-inch copper-look alloy wheels. The wheels were specially developed for the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 and are home to the generously dimensioned and powerful brake system from Akebono
A number of new technologies optimize the precision and control of the chassis in a wide variety of weather and road conditions. The standard electronic damper control (Electronic Control Suspension, ECS) in the GT-line version increases comfort and safety thanks to the continuous damping control. The system reacts to body movements and steering inputs and changes the damping behavior at lightning speed in order to counteract the vehicle's diving, pitching and rolling movements when cornering. It also adjusts the damping force in the case of obstacles in order to cope with them as comfortably as possible and to reduce the influence of post-vibrations on the wheels. A premiere for the Sportage is the “All-Terrain-Mode”, which will be available for the plug-in hybrid version with all-wheel drive. The system offers intelligent support when driving off-road or on snow by automatically optimizing the vehicle settings depending on the selected mode and thus helping the SUV to achieve maximum traction on muddy, sandy or snowy surfaces.
The in-line 6-cylinder engine in the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition now features the forged lightweight crankshaft of the BMW M3 and M4 models. Its extremely torsion-resistant design enables transmission of the particularly high torque, while its low weight and reduced rotating masses also benefit the engine’s revving power. The in-line 6-cylinder engine’s racetrack-proven cooling system is designed to enable an exceptionally high level of output and includes two laterally positioned radiators in addition to the central one. There is also an additional engine oil cooler and a separate transmission oil cooler. BMW M GmbH motor racing expertise is also evident in the design of the oil supply system, which is geared towards dynamic racetrack operation. The engine’s weight-optimised oil pan has two separate chambers and an integrated suction channel. An additional suction stage enables the map-controlled oil pump to deliver lubricant from the smaller oil sump, which serves as a volume buffer. In this way, a reliable oil supply is guaranteed at all times, even during extreme longitudinal and lateral acceleration.
