With its vast, often unforgiving playgrounds for crews and rally cars, the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC) gives professional and amateur drivers alike the opportunity to live out their passion in the sub-Saharan region. First held in 1981, this championship is now in its 40th season and features some legendary routes in stunning African landscapes. Zambia's Satwant Singh is the most successful driver in rally history, with a total of 8 championship titles. Current title holder Manvir Baryan from Kenya even won the championship multiple times in a row: in 2019, Baryan and his British co-driver Drew Sturrock took the victory in the Pearl of Uganda Rally, winning his third Africa Championship in a row. The duo finished on the podium in every race and secured a total of three individual victories (Ivory Coast, Zambia, Uganda) ahead of the chasing team in the overall standings Zambia's Leroy and Urshlla Gomes. Last year, unfortunately, almost all races had to be canceled, but the organizers are hopeful for a successful season this year.
