Crisp and compact on the outside, very spacious and versatile on the inside with cool SUV looks. That is the new Opel Crossland (RRP incl. VAT in Germany from €18,995), which is the first model to adopt the brand’s unmistakeable new face, showcased just a few weeks ago by the new Opel Mokka. As with the Mokka, the new Opel Crossland dispenses with the X-appendix in its name. In addition to the design, Opel has further developed the Crossland’s chassis and steering, and added a sporty GS Line trim as well as IntelliGrip adaptive traction control. Organically integrating the grille and headlights, the Opel Vizor of the new Crossland extends in one single sweep across the front of the vehicle. The Vizor optically stretches the width and organises the fascia with a reduced amount of elements. The brand’s legendary lightning-flash emblem proudly dominates the centre. The Vizor will become a hallmark of all Opel models in the course of the 2020s with the idea of further clustering top technologies.
Alpine at the forefront of Groupe Renault’s innovation with new generation of exclusive sports cars
Alpine is arguably the epitome of French motoring, building on remarkable victories throughout its history. It is a brand with heritage and pedigree. It is also a factory with highly skilled specialists manufacturing the A110 in Dieppe. Renault Sport Cars comprises a team of 300 people who are masters at developing sports cars. They gave Groupe Renault iconic products such as the R5 Turbo, Clio V6, Megane RS Trophy and the new Alpine A110. Renault Sport Racing, with its eponymous F1 team, gathers 1,200 people who develop the “grand complication watches of motorsport” with some of the best aerodynamicists, mechanics and powertrain engineers. F1 is also a huge marketing platform with half a billion fans worldwide, thus representing a unique opportunity to enhance Alpine’s branding globally. Alpine will also leverage the scale and capabilities of Groupe Renault and the RNM Alliance including technology with the Alliance EV-native platform, a global manufacturing footprint, a powerful purchasing arm ensuring optimum cost competitiveness, a global distribution network and RCI Bank and Services. The clear objective is to be profitable in 2025 including investment in motorsport.
The proceeds from the auction of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé serve as seed capital for the global initiative. Mercedes-Benz is committed to investing additional resources in the coming years. The “Mercedes Benz Fund” will be divided into two sub-categories: University Scholarships in order to connect, educate and encourage students to realize/conduct research on environmental science projects and School Scholarships focussing on pupils to realize local environmental projects in their communities. The programme funds will be directed to individuals who otherwise do not have the financial means for their projects and career paths. The programme will go beyond financially supporting the young people and include extracurricular elements like Mercedes-Benz mentorships opening up new career prospects. The “Mercedes Benz Fund” will be jointly developed with and managed by an experienced partner which is currently being evaluated. The detailed set-up and roll-out planning as well as the partner organisation will be announced later this year.
Whether a large nuclear family or a small extended family: as a seven-seater, the new EQB offers space for many family constellations and a wide variety of transport needs. This gives it an exceptional position not only in the compact segment, but especially among electric cars. The two seats in the third row can be used by people up to 1.65 metres tall, and child seats can also be fitted there. The new EQB will make its debut at Auto Shanghai 2021 (21 to 28 April 2021). Following the EQA 250 (combined electrical consumption: 15.7 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) it is the second fully electric compact car from Mercedes-EQ. The powerful and efficient electric drive, clever recuperation and predictive Navigation with Electric Intelligence are just some of the features that link it to the EQA. The market launch in China is scheduled for this year. After Europe, the international version of the EQB, produced in Kecskemét, Hungary, will be launched at the end of the year, followed by the US market launch in 2022.
