The optional solar panel in the current generation of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid underlines Toyota's technological progress in the field of sustainable mobility and is a small building block in the implementation of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050. The solar roof has a long tradition in the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, as this technology was already available in the previous generation. There, the solar cells generate energy for the fans of the air conditioning system and thus ensure a noticeable reduction in the interior temperature even in hot weather before the start. In Japan, the car manufacturer is already testing the use of solar cells on other parts of the body, such as the hood or the tailgate. This would make it possible to use the power of the sun even more extensively in the future.
