Opel will offer the Zafira-e Life in three lengths, each tailor-made to customer requirements and available with up to nine seats. The Opel Zafira-e Life “Small” competes with compact vans but offers considerably more room and space for up to nine occupants – unrivalled in this class. It also features a narrow turning circle (only 11.3m), good handling and two sensor-controlled sliding doors that open electrically with a movement of the foot – unique in this market segment. The Zafira-e Life “Medium” (likewise the Zafira-e Life “L”) has a 35cm longer, 3.28m wheelbase and thus more legroom for the rear passengers, which makes it a competitor of midsize vans in the D market segment. Compared with the competition, the Opel also features a larger tailgate and easier access for loading/unloading. With a luggage capacity of around 4,500 litres, the Zafira-e Life “Large” is a rival for even bigger vans. There is also an electric parking brake that can be comfortably applied or released with just one finger.

The new Audi e-tron S and the new Audi e-tron S Sportback deliver dynamics in a new dimension. In S gear, they provide their full boost performance for eight seconds – 370 kW of power and 973 Nm (717.6 lb-ft) of torque. The standard sprint takes just 4.5 seconds and acceleration ends at 210 km/h (130.5 mph). The nominal values in D gear, i.e. without boost, are 320 kW and 808 Nm (596.0 lb-ft). The new S models have two electric motors on the rear axle and one on the front axle, making them the first volume-produced electric cars in the world to have three motors. Their drive layout is based on the modular construction principle: An adapted design of the more powerful electric motor that powers rear axle in the Audi e-tron 55 is now installed on the front axle. The front electric motor from the e-tron 55** operates together with a structurally identical counterpart and individual modifications in the rear. The high-voltage battery system is located under the passenger compartment. Each of its 36 modules contain 12 cells. The battery has a gross energy capacity of 95 kWh, of which 91 percent (86 kWh) is usable. With one battery charge, the Audi e-tron S and the Audi e-tron S Sportback achieve ranges of up to 364 km (226.2 mi) and 370 km (229.9 mi) respectively in the WLTP cycle.

BMW Production of battery modules - The protective cover is fitted

The BMW Group is launching production of battery components at its plants in Leipzig and Regensburg and expanding its e-drive production network. It has been less than a year since the decision was made to expand production capacity for e-drives in Germany. BMW Group Plant Leipzig will launch series production of battery modules on Monday, 3 May 2021, while BMW Group Plant Regensburg began coating battery cells for high-voltage batteries in April 2021. High-voltage batteries will also be produced in Regensburg from 2022.

With a time of 7: 40.748 minutes, the new Audi RS 3 sedan is the fastest compact model on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. In June, Frank Stippler, racing and development driver Audi Sport improved the previous lap record in this class by 4.64 seconds. Above all, the torque splitter with its fully variable torque distribution on the rear axle contributed to the successful record drive - Vorsprung durch Technik. The setup is completed by the semi-slick tires from the Pirelli P Zero “Trofeo R” brand, available for the first time ex works, the 19-inch ceramic brake system at the front and the RS sports suspension plus with adaptive damper control. It adapts each damper individually and permanently to the road conditions, the driving situation and the mode selected in Audi drive select. With the ceramic brake system and the adaptive chassis, the legendary five-cylinder high-performance engine in the RS 31 delivers a top speed of 290 km / h - the best value in the segment. And even with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds, the RS 3 is top of the class.
